FURTHER EAST/FURTHER WEST - CALL FOR SCORES


 


 

Vancouver Pro Musica’s Further East/Further West new music program seeks new works by BC composers for inclusion in a concert to be produced at the end of June or early July, 2010.  

 

Further East/Further West presents intercultural music. The program is intended to develop a bridge between traditional ethnic repertoire and new compositions by BC composers. Submitted works should be an exploration of different cultures.

 

This concert will feature Mark Takeshi McGregor (flutes), Brian Nesselroad (percussion) and Carolyn Chan (Butoh-inspired dancer).     

 

Guidelines and Specifications

 

• The Call is open to all BC composers.

• There is no age limit and composers of all experience levels are invited to submit.

• The total duration of the work must not exceed 8 minutes.   

 

Instrumentation and Performers:  

 

Submitted works can be for any combination of the following:

 

Flute (one player), doubling piccolo and/or alto flute

Percussion (one player), see attached list

Dancer specializing in (but not limited to) Japanese Butoh-inspired

 

Please note:


  1. Certain submissions may be selected (with composer approval) to include dancer. Submissions can be written to specifically include dance, but final decisions regarding choreography will generally be left to the dancer. Composers may also request to not have their pieces choreographed.

 


  1. Submissions that include percussion must adhere to the proposed instrumentation and set up. Please look over the “Percussion List” included in this call at the request of Brian Nesselroad and if there are any questions or concerns, they should be directed to Brian Nesselroad: bnesselroad@shaw.ca

 


  1. Submissions that include flute may also include doubling on piccolo and/or alto flute. NO bass flute. Any questions or concerns should be directed to Mark McGregor: marktmcgregor@yahoo.ca

 

 

Please include each of the following in your submission:  

 

(i) Two copies of the score;

(ii) Individual parts for each performer (score format is acceptable if graphic notation is used–please contact the ensemble directly if you wish to submit parts in this format);

(iii) A brief program note (please indicate how your composition fits the Further East/Further West program mandate to explore different cultural traditions through music);

(iv) A brief biographical note;

(v) A recording of the submitted work, if available; and

(vi) Application fee of $20.00 - please make your cheque or money order payable to Vancouver Pro Musica. All submitters become members in good standing of Vancouver Pro Musica, exempt from membership dues for one year.

 

Please do not send a MIDI reproduction.  

 

Submission Deadline: Submissions must be received on or before March 31st, 2010.
